The VACP Career Center aims to modernize law enforcement recruitment with AI job-matching, leadership development, and community-focused hiring.
The Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police & Foundation (VACP) has rolled out a new AI-powered Career Center, built on SmartJobBoard’s recruitment platform, to help law enforcement agencies fill critical vacancies and support professionals seeking career advancement.
The move reflects a growing trend: law enforcement talent is more mobile than ever, with officers and leaders crossing agency lines in pursuit of new opportunities. By pairing an AI-driven job board with professional development and public safety consulting services, VACP is positioning itself as a central hub for building careers in policing across Virginia and neighboring states.
From Static Listings to Smart Matching
Unlike the bulletin board-style postings still common in the public sector, the VACP Career Center uses AI algorithms to actively match candidates with roles that fit their skills and experience. Job seekers can create profiles, upload resumes, and receive customized alerts, while employers gain access to a highly qualified candidate pool.
Discounted posting rates for VACP members sweeten the deal for agencies, while the platform remains open to local, campus, state, federal, and even out-of-state police organizations.
“Our new Career Center not only helps agencies fill critical vacancies with qualified candidates but also supports professionals looking to build lifelong careers in law enforcement,” said Dana Schrad, executive director of VACP.
Recruitment Meets Retention
The launch is also about more than hiring—it’s about keeping talent engaged. By linking recruitment with leadership development programs, VACP hopes to address one of law enforcement’s toughest challenges: retaining skilled professionals in a competitive and evolving environment.
For SmartJobBoard, the project underscores the company’s niche: powering mission-driven job boards for associations, nonprofits, and government organizations.
“What makes the VACP Career Center unique is its focus on the law enforcement community,” said Rodion Telpizov, CEO of SmartJobBoard. “We’re proud to support a platform that simplifies hiring for agencies and makes career growth more accessible for candidates who want to serve their communities.”
Why It Matters
Policing agencies nationwide face mounting recruitment and retention challenges, from filling entry-level roles to developing the next generation of leadership. By leaning on AI to streamline hiring and pairing it with professional development, VACP is offering a blueprint that other associations may soon follow.
