BioTalent Canada Launches IDEA Resource Library to Tackle Talent Gaps

New Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility Resource Library. Developed by BioTalent Canada, this library is designed to support employers in attracting, hiring, and retaining a more diverse and skilled workforce—ultimately driving innovation and competitiveness across the sector.

Empowering Employers with IDEA Tools

The IDEA Resource Library offers practical, high-impact tools that help organizations embed IDEA principles into recruitment, onboarding, and workplace culture. By fostering inclusive environments, employers can tap into broader talent pools, improve retention, and build workforces that reflect the communities they serve.

“Workforce diversity isn’t just a value—it’s a competitive advantage,” said Rob Henderson, President and CEO of BioTalent Canada. “This library ensures employers have the right tools to embed IDEA into their hiring and retention strategies.”

Responding to a Growing Labour Shortage

Labour market research from BioTalent Canada projects a need for 18,800 additional bio-economy workers in Western Canada by 2029. Many small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the sector operate without formal HR departments, making accessible and actionable resources critical for sustained growth.

“BioAlberta is committed to strengthening Alberta’s bio-economy by equipping employers with the necessary tools to thrive,” added Robb Stoddard, President and CEO of BioAlberta. “This resource library provides actionable guidance to foster inclusive hiring and workplace practices.”

Permanent Access for Long-Term Success

The IDEA Resource Library will remain a permanent fixture on BioTalent Canada’s website, offering continuous access to materials aimed at helping employers address systemic workforce gaps through IDEA-centered strategies.

This initiative complements other BioTalent Canada programs, including:

  • I.D.E.A.L. Bioscience Employer™ Recognition Program – Celebrates organizations leading in inclusive workplace practices.

  • I.D.E.A.L. Scholarship™ Program – Awards three $10,000 scholarships annually to students who identify as Indigenous, newcomers, or persons with disabilities, supporting their education in Canadian universities or colleges. Applications for 2025 are now open.

As Canada’s bio-economy evolves, embracing IDEA is no longer optional—it’s essential. Through initiatives like the IDEA Resource Library, BioTalent Canada is equipping employers with the knowledge and tools to meet workforce demands while cultivating inclusive and future-ready workplaces. Employers who invest in IDEA strategies not only meet labour challenges head-on but position themselves as leaders in innovation and equity.
