D2L Survey Finds U.S. Workers Embrace AI as a Workplace Ally

Global learning technology company D2L, in collaboration with Morning Consult, has released compelling survey findings ahead of its upcoming White Paper, “Upskill with Purpose: Creating a Future-Ready Workforce.” The data reveals that U.S. workers are largely optimistic about the role of Artificial Intelligence in the workplace, viewing it as a valuable aid rather than a threat.

Yet, despite this optimism, the survey points to significant gaps in formal AI training and employer strategy, suggesting a need for better support to fully harness AI’s potential.

Findings: AI Viewed as a Partner, Not a Threat

  • 69% of respondents agree that AI will help them perform their jobs better.

  • 65% are excited about AI automating repetitive tasks.

  • 68% believe AI will free up time for strategic and creative work.

  • Only 33% express fear that AI will take their job.

  • 38% believe AI will have little or no impact on their roles.

These results paint a picture of a workforce open to AI integration, especially if it supports more human centered work like problem-solving, creativity, and collaboration.

Employer AI Strategy: Encouraged but Not Clear

  • 64% report that their company provides access to AI tools.

  • Yet, only 25% strongly agree their employer has a clear AI vision for their role.

  • 63% say their company encourages AI usage and innovation.

  • But just 39% report actually using AI tools for work or skill development in the last 1–3 years.

This disconnect shows that while AI tools are available, the lack of clarity and structured rollout strategies limits their effectiveness and adoption.

Training and Learning: A Missed Opportunity

  • 61% say they have access to formal training.

  • However, 58% feel they’ve had to learn AI on their own.

This points to a major opportunity for employers to provide formal, accessible training that supports responsible AI adoption and skills growth.

Executive Perspective

“Workers see the value in AI for helping complete repetitive and data-driven tasks, freeing up time to focus on human strengths like creativity, problem-solving, and communication,”

— John Baker, President and CEO, D2L

He emphasizes that with strategic investment in AI education and the right learning systems, employers can empower teams to not only adapt but thrive in an AI-powered work environment.

About the Upcoming White Paper

The survey data will be fully explored in D2L’s 2025 White Paper, Upskill with Purpose: Creating a Future-Ready Workforce, releasing July 2025. It will offer in-depth insights on:

  • Employee and employer perspectives on upskilling

  • Demand for non-traditional, flexible learning

  • Practical guidance for integrating AI into corporate learning strategies

D2L’s survey underscores a critical insight: AI isn’t the enemy unclear strategies and insufficient training are. Workers are ready to embrace AI, but they need structured support to do so confidently. As businesses aim to build a future-ready workforce, investing in the right learning technologies and strategic upskilling is not just beneficial it’s essential.
