Leadership appointments don’t always signal market impact. This one might.
Kenneth Johnson, Director of International Markets & Business Development at SWBC Insurance Services, has been named Vice President of Asociación de Empresarios Mexicanos San Antonio (AEM) for the 2026 term.
The appointment places Johnson at the center of one of Texas’ most active cross-border business networks at a time when trade, entrepreneurship, and regional economic collaboration remain top priorities in the San Antonio corridor.
Expanding Cross-Border Entrepreneurship
In his new role, Johnson will focus on strengthening entrepreneurship programs and expanding business resources for owners looking to launch and scale operations in Texas. A key priority: enhancing cross-border business support, particularly for Mexican and Latino entrepreneurs navigating U.S. market entry and growth.
He will also lead collaborations with the Consulado de México en San Antonio to support women entrepreneurs and relaunch the AEM Young Entrepreneurs Committee. That initiative will partner with local universities to provide mentorship, internships, and networking opportunities—building a structured pipeline for emerging business leaders.
For San Antonio, a city deeply tied to binational commerce, these programs aren’t symbolic. They’re economic strategy.
From Athletics to Executive Leadership
Johnson’s leadership philosophy blends corporate discipline with community development. A graduate of Leadership San Antonio (Class 49), he previously built a career as a professional soccer player—an experience he credits with shaping his focus on teamwork, resilience, and personal development.
In 2017, after relocating to San Antonio, he co-founded a local soccer club aimed at expanding access to structured athletic development for youth across skill levels. The club emphasized mentorship and community engagement—principles he now carries into his business leadership roles.
That continuity—from sports to corporate strategy—mirrors a broader shift in executive leadership, where mentorship and talent cultivation increasingly define long-term organizational strength.
Aligning Community Impact With Corporate Strategy
Johnson’s appointment also reflects broader corporate-community alignment. SWBC Insurance Services, a diversified financial services provider, operates in markets where cultural fluency and cross-border relationships can influence business growth.
Kevin Witcher, CEO of SWBC Insurance Services, highlighted Johnson’s ability to bridge business leadership with community engagement—an increasingly valuable combination as companies prioritize ESG, workforce development, and regional investment.
AEM at 30: A Milestone Moment
Founded in 1996, AEM San Antonio has spent nearly three decades supporting Mexican and Latino entrepreneurs through education, mentorship, and trade opportunities. As the organization marks its 30th anniversary under President Victor Reyna, Johnson’s vice presidency signals an emphasis on next-generation leadership and structured entrepreneurship pathways.
The relaunch of the Young Entrepreneurs Committee in particular reflects a growing recognition: sustainable business ecosystems depend on early mentorship, practical exposure, and cross-sector collaboration.
Why It Matters for HR and Business Leaders
For HR and business executives operating in Texas and across the Southwest, binational talent mobility and Latino entrepreneurship represent significant growth vectors.
Cross-border trade between the U.S. and Mexico continues to expand, and cities like San Antonio function as economic bridges. Strengthening entrepreneurial infrastructure—especially among young professionals—can enhance workforce readiness and business resilience.
Johnson’s appointment underscores a larger trend: executive leaders increasingly serve dual roles as corporate strategists and community architects.
In an era where economic growth, workforce development, and cultural connectivity intersect, those dual capabilities may prove essential.
