UKG is bringing in heavyweight tech leadership to fuel its AI-first vision. The HR and workforce management giant has appointed Jim Joudrey as Chief Technology Officer, where he’ll oversee more than 4,000 engineers in the company’s global cloud and engineering organization. Joudrey joins the executive team under CEO Jennifer Morgan, who called him a “transformational technology leader.”
From Amazon to UKG: A Data-Driven Resume
Joudrey isn’t new to scaling big, complex systems. At Amazon, he most recently ran digital acceleration for more than 40 business lines—including Prime, Audible, Music, Devices, and Games. Before that, he helped steer Salesforce’s Analytics Cloud Engineering after its $15.7 billion Tableau acquisition, driving a major cloud migration.
He also logged a decade inside AWS infrastructure, overseeing critical engineering for data centers, automation, labor management, and hardware vetting—experience that should translate neatly into UKG’s push to modernize and scale its platform.
Why the Move Matters
UKG may not carry the consumer cachet of Amazon or Salesforce, but its footprint is huge. The company counts more than 80,000 customers in 150 countries, including two-thirds of the Fortune 1000. Its AI-first platform is pitched as a way to give organizations better workforce visibility, smarter decision-making, and more flexible operations.
For UKG, hiring Joudrey is both a credibility play and a signal that it intends to compete aggressively with peers like Workday, Oracle, and ADP—all of which are racing to embed generative AI into HR, payroll, and workforce platforms.
A New Era of HR Tech Leadership
“UKG is on a remarkable trajectory,” Joudrey said, adding that what drew him to the company was the chance to build “category-leading products” that empower employees while optimizing operations.
He takes over from Sri Srinivasan, who has served as interim CTO since 2023. The timing is key: HR tech is at an inflection point where AI-driven decision-making and automation are becoming table stakes, not differentiators. Joudrey’s mix of scale-hardened infrastructure expertise and product vision could give UKG an edge in shaping that next chapter.
