The United Kingdom’s technology sector is showing no signs of slowing down. According to CompTIA’s “State of the Tech Workforce UK 2025”, the country’s tech workforce is projected to expand for the fifth consecutive year, adding roughly 31,000 net new jobs, a 1.4% increase that will push total tech employment above 2.2 million.
Since 2019, the sector has grown by nearly 154,000 positions, and projections suggest it will continue outpacing the broader UK labour market through 2030.
AI, Cloud, and Cybersecurity Drive Demand
“Artificial intelligence is changing the tech job market, but strong technical skills in cloud infrastructure, cybersecurity, data, software, and tech support remain the bedrock to getting hired and promoted,” said Jason Moss, CompTIA Senior VP, EMEA. He emphasized that a mix of technical, personal, and business skills is increasingly critical to standing out in the competitive talent pool.
Job posting data supports the sector’s momentum. Core tech roles saw a noticeable rebound in Q2 2025, signaling ongoing employer demand.
Where Tech Jobs Are Concentrated
Roughly one-third of UK tech workers are located in four metropolitan hubs:

Other cities with high tech workforce concentrations include Edinburgh (8.2%), Leeds (8.1%), and Bristol (7.1%), measured as a percentage of total employment.
Tech Compensation and Economic Impact
Tech roles continue to command a premium. The median annual wage for tech professionals is £49,410, 52% higher than the UK median wage across all sectors.
In economic terms, the tech industry accounts for roughly 5.2% of the UK’s GDP, translating to £86.2 billion in direct economic value, supported by about 160,000 tech business establishments nationwide.
