Golden Key Group (GKG), a leader in federal human capital and workforce transformation, has partnered with Barton Community College to launch the nation’s first Associate of Arts degree with an emphasis in Federal Human Resources. The program is designed to provide transitioning servicemembers, veterans, and military spouses with the skills and credentials to succeed in federal HR careers.
“For more than two decades, GKG has supported federal agencies and employees through comprehensive HR solutions and workforce development programs,” said Donnielle DeMesme, VP of Leadership and Development at GKG. “This degree represents the next evolution of that mission, empowering servicemembers and their families to turn their experience into opportunity.”
Bridging Education and Federal Careers
The program was developed over a year through collaboration between GKG’s federal HR experts, Barton’s academic leadership, and GKG’s Instructional Design team. The curriculum is tailored to the unique demands of the federal HR environment, preparing students to contribute immediately upon entering the workforce.
Barton Community College, located near Fort Riley and Fort Leavenworth in Kansas, provides dedicated campuses for military students, ensuring the program reaches those who will benefit most.
“This milestone represents more than a credential. It marks the beginning of a new era in federal HR education,” said Gretchen McCracken, CEO of GKG. “We’re proud to work alongside Barton to strengthen the federal workforce and help military families achieve lasting career success.”
The Bottom Line
This program represents a first-of-its-kind pathway into federal HR, combining industry expertise, academic rigor, and a strong connection to military communities. For veterans and military spouses, it offers a direct route to meaningful careers in public service, while helping federal agencies tap into a skilled and prepared workforce.
