Workday Expands East: New Reston Office to Anchor Public Sector Growth and Add 200 Jobs

The enterprise AI platform, Workday, Inc. (NASDAQ: WDAY), announced plans to open a new regional office in Reston, Virginia, designed to serve as the hub for its growing U.S. public sector operations. The expansion will create over 200 new jobs across the Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia region, reinforcing Workday’s long-term commitment to modernizing government technology.

The new Reston Town Center office—set to open in spring 2026—will replace Workday’s current location in Tysons, VA, and strengthen its proximity to key federal agencies and technology partners.

A Growing Public Sector Footprint

The move comes as public sector modernization accelerates nationwide. From HR to finance, government agencies are racing to replace decades-old legacy systems with secure, cloud-based, and AI-driven platforms.

In July 2024, Workday launched Workday Government, a wholly owned subsidiary dedicated to serving the unique compliance and security needs of U.S. federal, state, and local agencies. The subsidiary already supports major clients such as the Department of Energy, the Department of Defense, and members of the intelligence community, providing the infrastructure and intelligence needed to modernize critical workforce and financial operations.

“In government, modernization is mission-critical,” said Lynn Martin, president of Workday Government. “As agencies embrace cloud and AI to strengthen readiness and improve efficiency, our new Reston office reinforces our commitment to supporting their transformation — creating local opportunities, deepening regional ties, and helping them achieve their missions with confidence.”

Why It Matters: AI Meets the Mission

Workday’s expansion signals more than just new office space—it’s a strategic bet on AI-driven digital transformation in the U.S. public sector.

The federal government has ramped up investment in cloud infrastructure and generative AI applications, pushing agencies to rethink how they manage talent, budgets, and mission readiness. By deepening its footprint near the nation’s capital, Workday positions itself as both a technology provider and transformation partner, bridging Silicon Valley’s innovation culture with Washington’s security-first demands.

For a region long dominated by legacy software vendors and sprawling federal contractors, Workday’s arrival injects a dose of modern cloud energy into an ecosystem ripe for change.
