The global legal technology and services leader announced the sale of its Global Business Transformation Solutions (Epiq GBTS) division to K2 Services, a major managed services provider. The move marks a strategic pivot for Epiq as it sharpens its focus on expanding AI-powered and SaaS-based legal solutions across corporate, law firm, and court clients.
Epiq GBTS, which specializes in operational transformation and managed business services, will now form part of K2 Services’ expanded enterprise, led by Michelle Deichmeister, the former president of Epiq GBTS. Deichmeister takes the helm as CEO of the new K2 Services entity, bringing continuity and leadership to the transition.
Epiq Refocuses on Legal Tech and AI
Epiq’s divestiture underscores a clear strategy: prioritize technology innovation over traditional outsourcing models.
“The sale of Epiq GBTS is a strategic shift as we continue to focus on innovation, expanding our technology portfolio, and delivering even greater impact to our clients across the legal ecosystem,” said David Dobson, CEO of Epiq.
Known as one of the most advanced alternative legal service providers (ALSPs), Epiq has built a reputation for managing complex legal settlements and compliance workflows at scale. With this move, the company doubles down on services-enabled technology, developing proprietary AI tools and SaaS solutions that enhance efficiency, accuracy, and data-driven decision-making across the legal lifecycle.
It’s a timely pivot: the legal industry is experiencing a surge of AI adoption as law firms and corporate legal departments seek automation for discovery, compliance, and document management. Epiq’s investments position it at the forefront of that evolution—where tech-first delivery models increasingly define competitive advantage.
K2 Services Gains Scale in Managed Transformation
For K2 Services, the acquisition of Epiq GBTS is a major expansion play in the managed services arena. The division’s expertise in front-, middle-, and back-office transformation complements K2’s existing suite of IT and operational solutions, creating a combined capability designed to help organizations streamline and modernize at scale.
“By combining proven expertise, integrated capabilities, and a clear go-to-market focus, K2 Services’ new entity will redefine how organizations tackle operational transformation,” said Michelle Deichmeister, now CEO of the restructured business. “This newly formed entity will be more than a managed services provider—we’re strategically helping our clients architect the operational backbone of their business.”
The integration brings together technical talent from both the U.S. and global markets, expanding K2’s footprint across industries seeking more agile, data-informed operational frameworks.
A Clean Split, but a Collaborative Future
Both companies emphasized a collaborative transition that ensures continuity for existing clients and employees. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Rothschild & Co advised Epiq on the deal, with Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP serving as legal counsel. K2 Services was represented by Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP.
The sale marks a pivotal moment in Epiq’s evolution from a managed services player into a pure-play legal technology innovator, while K2 Services gains a deeper operational footprint in enterprise transformation.
In an era where both AI-driven insights and scalable service delivery are reshaping legal and corporate operations, this transaction positions both companies to lead from their respective strengths.
