Enterprise leadership development platform ExecOnline is entering a new leadership chapter. The company has appointed Fletcher Jones as Chief Executive Officer, while co-founder and longtime CEO Stephen Bailey transitions to Board Chair.
The move reflects what the company describes as a natural evolution following a significant business model transformation, renewed operating momentum, and fresh investment aimed at fueling its next phase of profitable growth.
ExecOnline, known for delivering online leadership development programs in partnership with top business schools, has spent the past two years reshaping its strategy to focus more heavily on enterprise customers and measurable leadership outcomes.
Now, with a stronger operational foundation, the company is bringing in new leadership to scale the next stage of expansion.
A Founder Transition After 13 Years
Bailey founded ExecOnline with a mission to make elite business school leadership programs more accessible through digital platforms. Over the past decade, the company has worked with universities to translate executive education into scalable online programs for corporate leaders.
Under Bailey’s leadership, ExecOnline helped shape the modern online executive education category—long before remote learning became mainstream.
Now, he says the timing is right to bring in a new CEO focused on scaling operations and growth.
“As we’ve come through a meaningful transformation of our business model, the end of 2025 was incredibly validating,” Bailey said. “We exceeded and raised our Q4 top-line guidance, driven by strong performance from our existing customers.”
Bailey will remain deeply involved with the business as Board Chair, focusing on university partnerships, strategic customers, and innovation initiatives.
A New CEO With EdTech and Enterprise Experience
Jones brings significant experience in education technology and enterprise learning platforms.
Before joining ExecOnline, he held leadership roles at EVERFI, a digital education platform focused on workforce and compliance training, and CEB, which later became part of Gartner.
Across those organizations, Jones built a track record around scaling technology-driven learning products, expanding enterprise adoption, and delivering measurable outcomes for corporate customers.
He says ExecOnline’s position at the intersection of leadership development and enterprise technology was a major draw.
“ExecOnline sits at the intersection of leadership, technology, and measurable impact,” Jones said. “The company has exceptional university partnerships, a talented team, and a differentiated product experience.”
His mandate now is to build on that foundation and accelerate the company’s growth trajectory.
Strategic Investment to Fuel Expansion
The leadership change comes alongside new investment intended to support product innovation and potential acquisitions.
The funding round was led by JS Partners, with participation from existing investors including Newspring Capital, ABS Capital, and Osage Ventures.
ExecOnline plans to use the capital to expand its leadership development platform, enhance its AI capabilities, and potentially pursue acquisitions that complement its enterprise learning ecosystem.
According to Mike Avon, board member at ExecOnline and managing partner at ABS Capital, the company is reaching a pivotal moment.
“ExecOnline has successfully navigated a significant operating transformation while investing in meaningful product innovation,” Avon said.
That innovation includes AI-driven tools designed to improve learner feedback, track leadership development progress, and help enterprises measure the return on investment (ROI) of leadership programs.
Enterprise Learning Gets More Data-Driven
Leadership development has long been a priority for large organizations, but measuring its effectiveness has historically been difficult.
Traditional executive education programs often relied on subjective feedback rather than measurable outcomes.
ExecOnline has been working to change that by integrating technology and analytics into leadership training.
Its platform combines online learning modules with coaching, peer interaction, and data-driven insights to help organizations understand how leadership development translates into business results.
This approach aligns with a broader shift in corporate learning strategies.
Companies are increasingly demanding measurable impact from leadership training—especially as budgets come under scrutiny and organizations seek to link leadership capabilities directly to business performance.
Partnerships With Leading Business Schools
One of ExecOnline’s core differentiators is its network of partnerships with top global business schools.
Rather than creating generic corporate training content, the company works with universities to adapt executive education programs for online delivery.
This model allows companies to provide their leaders with structured learning experiences rooted in academic research while benefiting from the scalability of digital platforms.
For customers and academic partners, the leadership transition is designed to ensure both continuity and innovation.
Jones says maintaining strong relationships with university partners will remain central to the company’s growth strategy.
“Our strategy for profitable growth is built with our partners at the center,” he said. “Our success is directly tied to their success.”
The Future of Leadership Development
The global market for corporate leadership development continues to expand as companies face rapid technological change, shifting workforce expectations, and growing competition for talent.
Organizations increasingly view leadership capability as a strategic advantage rather than simply a professional development initiative.
At the same time, the delivery model for leadership training is evolving.
Digital platforms, AI-driven learning analytics, and hybrid education models are reshaping how executives and emerging leaders build skills.
ExecOnline’s transition to new leadership—and its fresh investment—signals the company’s intention to compete aggressively in that evolving market.
As Bailey moves into his role as board chair, he sees the next chapter as an opportunity to continue redefining how leadership education is delivered.
“Over the past 13 years, we’ve helped define what online leadership development can be,” he said. “Our commitment now is to keep pushing the envelope and continue innovating in how organizations develop their leaders.”
