Skillsoft Completes Global Knowledge Sale to Sharpen Focus on AI Skills Platform

Skillsoft has completed the sale of its Global Knowledge business, marking a strategic shift toward becoming a pure-play AI-native skills management platform. The move simplifies the company’s portfolio as enterprises increasingly invest in workforce upskilling, AI readiness, and skills intelligence to adapt to rapidly changing business requirements.

Skillsoft has finalized the sale of its Global Knowledge instructor-led training business to an affiliate of Enduring Ventures, completing a strategic divestiture that positions the company to concentrate exclusively on its AI-native skills management platform.

The transaction follows a strategic review announced earlier this year and reflects broader changes across the corporate learning and workforce technology market, where organizations are shifting from traditional training delivery toward continuous skills intelligence, workforce planning, and AI-enabled talent development.

Although the businesses will now operate independently, Skillsoft said it intends to maintain a strategic partnership with Global Knowledge. Under the arrangement, Skillsoft customers will continue to have access to instructor-led training offerings, while Global Knowledge customers will retain access to Skillsoft’s digital learning platform, content library, and skills intelligence capabilities.

A streamlined strategy centered on AI-native workforce development

The divestiture simplifies Skillsoft’s business around a single strategic priority: helping enterprises identify, develop, and manage workforce skills in an environment increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence.

As generative AI transforms job roles and accelerates the pace of skill change, organizations are placing greater emphasis on understanding current workforce capabilities, identifying emerging skills gaps, and aligning learning investments with evolving business needs.

Skillsoft positions its platform as a system that enables organizations to manage workforce skills dynamically, providing visibility into employee capabilities while supporting continuous learning and career development.

Chief Executive Officer Ron Hovsepian said the transaction enables the company to dedicate its resources to expanding its AI-native platform while preserving customer access to instructor-led learning through its continued relationship with Global Knowledge.

The strategy reflects a growing shift across enterprise learning technology, where AI-powered skills intelligence is becoming as important as content delivery itself.

Global Knowledge begins a new chapter

Following the acquisition, Global Knowledge will operate independently under Enduring Ventures, focusing on instructor-led technology and cybersecurity training.

Global Knowledge has built its reputation around live technical education, certification preparation, and enterprise IT training programs. Its customer base spans organizations investing in cloud computing, networking, cybersecurity, infrastructure modernization, and digital transformation.

According to Global Knowledge CEO Darren Bance, independence provides greater flexibility to respond to evolving enterprise learning requirements, particularly as organizations accelerate AI adoption and strengthen cybersecurity capabilities.

Enduring Ventures also sees growing demand for expert-led technical education.

Managing Director Zack Onisko noted that many organizations are actively retraining employees to address AI-driven workforce transformation, creating sustained demand for practical instructor-led learning alongside digital platforms.

AI is reshaping enterprise learning

The transaction comes at a time when enterprise learning is undergoing significant transformation.

Traditional corporate training programs are increasingly being supplemented by AI-powered learning platforms capable of recommending personalized content, mapping employee skills, and forecasting future workforce requirements.

Technology providers including Microsoft, Google, Oracle, Workday, SAP SuccessFactors, Salesforce, and LinkedIn Learning continue expanding AI capabilities across learning management systems (LMS), talent marketplaces, and workforce planning solutions.

Rather than simply delivering courses, modern learning platforms are evolving into comprehensive skills management systems that connect learning with recruitment, internal mobility, succession planning, and business strategy.

This shift reflects growing enterprise interest in treating workforce skills as measurable business assets rather than isolated training outcomes.

Financial details

The transaction follows the Sale and Purchase Agreement announced in May 2026.

Under the agreement, Skillsoft received initial consideration of approximately $5.4 million in the form of a seller note, subject to customary post-closing adjustments related to working capital and indebtedness.

The company is also eligible to receive deferred consideration totaling $10 million, reduced by approximately $2 million associated with long-term employee liabilities, according to the transaction terms.

Market implications

Skillsoft’s decision to streamline its portfolio highlights a broader trend across the HR technology sector: specialization.

Rather than operating across multiple learning business models, vendors are increasingly focusing on differentiated capabilities such as AI-powered skills intelligence, workforce analytics, adaptive learning, or technical training.

According to Gartner, organizations are shifting toward skills-based talent strategies that prioritize workforce agility over traditional job structures. Meanwhile, McKinsey & Company estimates that rapid advances in AI and automation will require significant workforce reskilling across industries during the coming decade.

These market dynamics are fueling demand for platforms capable of identifying evolving skills requirements while helping organizations continuously align employee capabilities with business priorities.

For enterprise HR and learning leaders, Skillsoft’s restructuring reflects the growing convergence of learning management, talent intelligence, and AI-driven workforce planning.

As enterprises seek greater visibility into workforce capabilities, AI-native skills platforms are expected to play an increasingly central role in organizational transformation strategies, while specialist providers such as Global Knowledge continue addressing demand for hands-on technical instruction and certification programs.
