As businesses chase talent worldwide, compliance is emerging as the Achilles’ heel of global hiring. According to Multiplier’s latest Global Hiring Gap report, only 8% of companies claim full compliance with international tax and labor regulations—a number that should raise alarms for HR and finance teams alike.
The survey, which included 500 business decision-makers across the U.S., Singapore, the U.K., and Australia, underscores a widening gap between ambition and readiness. Nearly 96% of companies say hiring abroad improves talent quality, yet most admit they are unprepared for the intricacies of visas, local labor laws, and evolving regulations.
“While the global economy is more interconnected than ever, the regulatory landscape for hiring remains extremely fragmented,” said Sagar Khatri, Co-Founder and CEO of Multiplier. “91% of companies can hire faster abroad, but simplifying compliance is the key to making the next era of hiring truly borderless.”
AI Talent Drives International Recruitment
The report also highlights a striking trend: 46% of respondents are hiring internationally to access AI skills. With the tech talent war heating up, companies are looking beyond borders, though immigration constraints remain a significant obstacle—33% cite visa challenges as a major reason for seeking global hires.
Even when firms identify the right candidates, regulatory hurdles often stall onboarding. Nearly half (46%) reported failing to onboard international hires due to compliance issues. With labor laws evolving and complexity on the rise, global expansion is becoming an increasingly high-stakes endeavor.
Implications for HR Tech and Global Expansion
For HR leaders and tech recruiters, the report signals that ambition alone isn’t enough. Tools and platforms that streamline compliance, payroll, and visa management are moving from nice-to-have to mission-critical. Companies slow to adopt these solutions risk losing top-tier talent to competitors better equipped to navigate the fragmented international landscape.
The Global Hiring Gap report surveyed companies with 50–1,000 employees and is now available for download on Multiplier’s website, offering a deeper dive into trends shaping international recruitment.
