Universal Technical Institute, Inc. (UTI), a national leader in workforce education, has announced a major expansion of its Dallas campus to address America’s growing skilled labor shortage. The expansion will accommodate nearly 1,000 additional students and introduce programs in Airframe and Powerplant, HVACR, Electrical, Robotics and Automation, Industrial Maintenance, and Wind Turbine Technology—pending regulatory approval.
Scaling Workforce Education for High-Demand Fields
The Dallas campus, which opened in 2010, currently serves about 1,400 students in programs such as Automotive Technology, Diesel and Industrial Technology, and Welding. The new expansion will feature a second, state-of-the-art 30,000-square-foot building in Irving, set to open in early 2026 at 1350 Lakeshore Drive in Coppel.
“There is incredible demand for workforce training programs—employers are seeking to quickly fill their talent pipelines, while more students are considering alternatives to traditional college that offer meaningful careers,” said Todd Hitchcock, UTI’s Corporate COO. “We are addressing the nation’s worker shortages by partnering with industry to increase access to our programs that are widely recognized for strong student outcomes and employer satisfaction.”
North Star Strategy Drives Growth
UTI’s multi-year North Star strategy focuses on growth, diversification, and operational optimization. As part of this plan, the company aims to open two new campuses annually between 2026 and 2029, launch new programs at existing locations, and enhance operations for maximum efficiency.
Tracy Lorenz, UTI Division President, added, “Dallas is a dynamic, fast-growing region with strong demand for skilled collar professionals. We look forward to working with the area’s employers on their workforce needs as we contribute further to the local economy.”
Expanding Footprint in Texas
UTI’s expansion reflects the company’s ongoing investment in Texas. Alongside the UTI-Dallas campus, there are currently six campuses statewide across UTI and its healthcare division, Concorde Career Colleges, including UTI-Austin, UTI-Houston, Concorde-Dallas, Concorde-Grand Prairie, and Concorde-San Antonio. A new UTI-San Antonio campus, dedicated exclusively to skilled trades, is also scheduled to open in 2026.
With this expansion, UTI is positioning itself as a key player in meeting workforce needs across high-demand technical fields, combining hands-on training with industry-aligned programs to ensure graduates are ready for meaningful careers.
