upGrad Launches ‘Intern-Zip Program’ to Skill 1 Lakh Learners and Support India’s Workforce Development

upGrad, Asia’s leading integrated learning and skilling major, has announced the launch of the Intern-Zip Program, a revolutionary initiative aimed at skilling 1 lakh learners in the fiscal year 2024-25. This move aligns with the Indian Prime Minister’s Internship Scheme, announced in the Union Budget 2024-25, and focuses on accelerating talent mobility while enhancing workforce readiness.

1. Intern-Zip Program Overview:

  • The program offers 9 comprehensive modules and virtual classrooms, targeting individuals aged 20-24 from non-tax-paying families.
  • upGrad aims to train 1 lakh learners at no cost in the first phase, with subsequent learners and corporate users paying $240 for the fully online course.
  • A $24 million scholarship pool has been set up to support the initiative.

2. Aligning with India’s Workforce Needs:

  • The Intern-Zip Program supports the Indian Prime Minister’s vision for internships and skill development, announced in the Union Budget.
  • The initiative focuses on bridging the gap between agriculture-based jobs and formal employment, building a robust infrastructure to empower the Indian workforce.

3. Comprehensive Curriculum for Holistic Development:

  • The modules cover three key areas: Technical Savviness, Soft Skill Mastery, and Professional Development.
  • Participants will gain proficiency in tools like Microsoft Office and ChatGPT, along with developing crucial soft skills like communication, time management, and networking.

4. Corporate Benefits and Talent Access:

  • Corporates gain access to skilled, job-ready talent at a set fee, ensuring a seamless talent pipeline.
  • This initiative also enables individuals from economically weaker sections to secure placements in top organizations and global capability centers (GCCs).

The Intern-Zip Program by upGrad marks a significant step toward creating an inclusive and skilled workforce in India. With a focus on both technical and professional development, this initiative promises to empower a new generation of talent, making a strong impact on the nation’s economic landscape.
