Dayforce Rebrands SMB Platform as ‘Powerpay’ to Simplify Payroll for Canadian Businesses

Dayforce Gives Powerpay a Makeover—and a Mission

In a move that blends smart rebranding with meaningful product updates, Dayforce has renamed its Canadian small and mid-sized business (SMB) platform to Powerpay by Dayforce—a fresh identity aimed at helping SMBs stay ahead in a landscape of ever-shifting compliance rules and rising operational complexity.

And this isn’t just a name change. The platform, used by over 46,000 businesses across Canada, now sports a more intuitive UI and expanded capabilities that reflect the urgent need for speed, simplicity, and compliance in managing payroll and HR for leaner teams.

“We see your challenges, we support your ambitions,” said Dayforce CEO David Ossip, aiming squarely at Canadian SMBs. “Powerpay is designed to simplify compliance, save time, and help business owners focus on what matters most.”

Canada’s SMBs are the engine of the economy—comprising 98% of all businesses and contributing billions to national GDP. But they’re also getting hammered by an avalanche of regulation: think hundreds of legislative changes annually, spanning everything from payroll tax to leave policies. For companies without a dedicated compliance department, that’s a bureaucratic minefield.

Enter Powerpay’s new suite of upgrades, including:

  • Enhanced time tracking

  • Improved compensation features

  • A redesigned New Hire Wizard

  • Bulk self-service onboarding

These are not flashy bells and whistles—they’re the kind of pragmatic features that save hours each week and reduce the likelihood of costly compliance missteps.

SMBs Need Tools, Not Just Tech

What separates Powerpay from other HR platforms like ADP’s RUN or Payworks is its increasingly tailored SMB approach. While many legacy HCM vendors focus on large enterprise clients or U.S.-centric systems, Dayforce is doubling down on Canada’s regulatory uniqueness.

Krista Hanes from Apollo Property Management praised the platform for exactly that: “It gives our HR and finance teams peace of mind, knowing payroll is always accurate and on time.”

That peace of mind is where platforms like Powerpay win or lose. Mistimed payroll or overlooked tax rules aren’t just minor annoyances—they’re growth killers for small businesses.

Leadership Backing, Long-Term Vision

Backing the platform’s push into the future is newly appointed Behrad Bayanpour, now General Manager of Powerpay. Already SVP of Strategy and Growth at Dayforce, Bayanpour will lead Sales, Product, Engineering, and Services for the SMB arm—essentially steering the ship as it evolves into a more robust, holistic platform.

His message: This isn’t just a product refresh. It’s a long-term commitment to SMBs navigating what’s become one of the most volatile compliance environments in recent memory.

“We’re not just providing a platform,” Bayanpour said. “We’re forging partnerships that fuel growth and help SMBs navigate an evolving landscape with confidence.”

Dayforce’s Powerpay rebrand arrives as the HR tech space grows increasingly crowded and fragmented. Canadian SMBs, in particular, face a choice between generalized international tools and region-specific platforms that can handle local nuances. With this move, Dayforce is making the case that it’s squarely in the latter camp—positioning Powerpay as a purpose-built solution for the uniquely complex Canadian market.

In a world where time is money and compliance is non-negotiable, Dayforce is betting that clarity, control, and trust will carry more weight than AI buzzwords or dashboards for dashboard’s sake.
