Tanka AI Launches Smart Messenger with Long-Term Memory to Challenge Slack

Tanka, the world’s first AI-powered messenger with long-term memory, officially launched today, aiming to revolutionize workplace communication. Backed by Shanda Group, a global investment firm, Tanka introduces MemGraph, a neuroscience-inspired AI memory technology that transforms business conversations into actionable intelligence.

Redefining the Future of Work with AI Memory

Unlike traditional messaging platforms, Tanka replaces rigid workflows with AI-driven processes, dynamically adapting to conversations. Key features include:

  • Personalized AI Memory for Teams – Automatically extracts actions, decisions, and insights from chats, preserving institutional knowledge.
  • Smart AI Responses – Integrates with tools like Slack, WhatsApp, Telegram, Outlook, and Gmail, offering context-aware replies based on previous conversations, calendar data, and user preferences. Since its alpha pilot launch in October 2024, Tanka has generated over 35,000 AI-powered smart replies, saving users the equivalent of 111 workdays.
  • AI Assistant for Every User – Summarizes discussions, retrieves key information, and schedules tasks in real-time.
  • Enterprise-Grade Security – Ensures encrypted, compliant, and privacy-focused communication, with user data never used for AI training.

“After years at Meta, TikTok, and my own startup, I saw firsthand how painful it is searching for past discussions, re-explaining things, and losing institutional knowledge. AI memory solves this problem at scale, and that’s what led to Tanka AI,” said Kisson Lin, CEO of Tanka.

Breaking AI’s Memory Bottleneck

Traditional AI assistants use Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), which retrieves information but lacks deep contextual understanding. Tanka’s MemGraph technology overcomes these limitations with:

  • Hierarchical Knowledge Representation – AI organizes and links related concepts.
  • Ontology Learning – Dynamically maps and refines knowledge connections.
  • Temporal Awareness – Tracks changes over time for strategic insights.
  • Multi-Resolution Retrieval – Offers both high-level summaries and in-depth details.
  • Reinforcement Learning – Adapts in real-time based on user feedback.

Additionally, Tanka’s AI framework, OMNE, recently outperformed Microsoft Research and other institutions in the GAIA benchmark for general-purpose AI assistants.

A Paradigm Shift in Workplace Communication

“Tanka doesn’t just respond – it remembers, learns, and surfaces knowledge proactively,” Lin added. “Whether it’s a past conversation, a critical decision, or an ongoing project update, Tanka retrieves in-context memories and organizes them in one place.”

By eliminating fragmented conversations and lost knowledge, Tanka ensures businesses not only boost productivity but also evolve, adapt, and build lasting legacies.
