Workday Achieves ISO 42001, NIST AI Risk Framework Certification

Workday, Inc., the enterprise AI platform for managing people, money, and agents, has announced a major milestone in its responsible AI strategy—earning two prestigious third-party accreditations for its AI governance program.

Workday has received the ISO 42001 certification, a globally recognized standard for AI management systems, and has also been independently attested for alignment with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) AI Risk Management Framework (RMF). These certifications demonstrate Workday’s continued leadership in transparent, ethical AI development and bolster trust in its enterprise solutions.

Industry-Leading AI Governance

These accomplishments come at a critical time as global regulators push for increased transparency, accountability, and security in the development of artificial intelligence. Workday voluntarily underwent these rigorous assessments, conducted by third-party assessors Schellman and Coalfire, to ensure it meets—and exceeds—emerging global standards.

“Workday is committed to developing AI that amplifies human potential and inspires trust,” said Dr. Kelly Trindel, Chief Responsible AI Officer, Workday. “Our robust responsible AI governance program is key to delivering the innovative, trustworthy products our customers expect, and this dual recognition affirms our leadership in this critical area.”

The ISO 42001 certification signifies that Workday has implemented a formal, well-documented AI management system, while the NIST AI RMF alignment attestation confirms the company’s adherence to best practices in AI risk identification, mitigation, and governance.

Independent Validation of AI Risk Practices

Workday’s accreditations are based not only on program design but also on evidence-based implementation, reflecting its mature approach to AI ethics and risk management.

“Workday demonstrated a strong AI governance program along with the internal expertise to manage the risks induced by using AI within their SaaS products,” said Mandy Pote, Managing Principal, Coalfire. “During the assessment, Workday not only articulated the design of its AI program but also provided clear documentation and evidence to substantiate its AI risk practices.”

This validation comes as organizations worldwide face increasing scrutiny over how AI technologies affect human rights, data privacy, safety, and security—areas Workday addresses proactively.

“We are proud to have been Workday’s trusted partner in achieving ISO 42001 certification,” added Danny Manimbo, Principal and ISO Practice Leader, Schellman. “Workday continues to set the standard for responsible AI in the technology sector.”

Why It Matters: Trust, Transparency, and Accountability in AI

As organizations increase their adoption of AI across finance, HR, and other core operations, the need for transparency and safeguards has never been more urgent. By embedding ethical AI practices into its development lifecycle, Workday is setting a benchmark for the enterprise SaaS industry.

These certifications affirm:

  • Proactive AI risk identification and management

  • Transparency in AI model governance and oversight

  • Protection of human rights, privacy, and ethical standards

  • Alignment with emerging international regulatory expectations

With AI continuing to reshape the workplace, Workday’s responsible innovation framework ensures customers can confidently integrate AI into their workforce and financial operations.
