ZipRecruiter (NYSE: ZIP) has rolled out Breakroom nationwide—a data-driven workplace rating platform built for frontline industries like retail, hospitality, and logistics—aimed at closing the gap between job seeker expectations and real on-the-job experience.
With over one million ratings already in its database, Breakroom offers role- and location-specific insights on pay, scheduling, culture, and conditions, based on a 30-question anonymous quiz taken by current employees. Instead of relying on subjective, open-ended reviews, Breakroom aggregates structured, comparable data to produce an objective 1–10 employer rating.
The move addresses a well-documented trust gap in employer reviews: while 84% of frontline workers say reviews influence whether they apply, 40% question their reliability. Misaligned expectations are a retention risk—only one in three workers say their job closely matched expectations, and mismatches rank among the top three reasons for quitting in the first 90 days.
“Frontline jobs account for over 70% of jobs in America,” said Ian Siegel, Co-founder & CEO of ZipRecruiter. “Breakroom brings fresh data on what these jobs really demand—from customer interaction, to time on your feet, to how and when you’re paid.”
Anna Maybank, Breakroom’s Founder & CEO, added: “We’re creating a cycle of transparency – empowering workers to shape better workplaces, giving job seekers a real look at life on the job, and providing employers a window into how their workplaces are truly experienced.”

As part of the launch, ZipRecruiter released the Breakroom Workplace Index, highlighting:
