CSG Expands Global Leadership Team with Ben Hudson’s Appointment as Vice Chairman

Global defence and industrial technology company CZECHOSLOVAK GROUP (CSG) has appointed defence industry executive Ben Hudson to its Board of Directors as Vice Chairman, strengthening its international leadership as the company expands its global defence technology business. The appointment reflects CSG’s continued focus on innovation, land defence systems, and international growth following a series of strategic acquisitions across Europe and North America.

As geopolitical tensions continue to drive defence modernization programs worldwide, leading defence manufacturers are increasingly strengthening their executive leadership with internationally experienced industry veterans. CZECHOSLOVAK GROUP (CSG) has taken another step in that direction by appointing Ben Hudson as Vice Chairman and member of its Board of Directors, effective August 1, 2026.

The appointment follows Hudson’s arrival at CSG earlier this year as Chief Executive Officer of CSG Land Systems and the group’s Chief Technology Officer (CTO). His expanded responsibilities underscore the strategic importance of technology leadership, advanced land defence capabilities, and international business development as the company continues its transformation into a global defence manufacturer.

CSG has undergone significant expansion over the past several years, evolving from a regional industrial enterprise into one of Europe’s fastest-growing defence and industrial technology companies. Through acquisitions across Europe and the United States, the company has expanded its international footprint, employing more than 14,000 people while serving defence customers across multiple regions.

According to CSG Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Michal Strnad, Hudson’s appointment supports the company’s long-term objective of building a globally experienced leadership team capable of guiding sustained international expansion.

Hudson brings more than three decades of experience across the defence sector, having held senior executive positions at several of the industry’s largest manufacturers. Before joining CSG, he served as Chief Executive Officer of Hanwha Europe, UK and Australia, overseeing the South Korean defence company’s regional operations during a period of increased European defence investment.

Earlier in his career, Hudson served as Group Chief Technology Officer at BAE Systems, one of the world’s largest defence contractors, and previously led the Vehicle Systems Division at Rheinmetall, where he was responsible for one of the company’s core land systems businesses. His professional background also includes service as an officer in the Australian Army, providing operational experience alongside executive leadership.

Throughout his career, Hudson has managed complex international defence programs spanning land, air, maritime, space, and cyber domains. That breadth of experience aligns with broader defence industry priorities as governments increasingly seek integrated multi-domain capabilities rather than standalone military platforms.

Within CSG, Hudson is responsible for shaping the group’s technology strategy, overseeing research and development initiatives, driving innovation across its portfolio companies, and advancing next-generation land defence systems. The dual role of CEO for CSG Land Systems and Group CTO places him at the center of the company’s product development and technology roadmap.

His appointment also reflects a wider trend across the global defence industry. As military procurement increasingly focuses on autonomous systems, digital command platforms, advanced ammunition, electronic warfare, and AI-enabled capabilities, defence manufacturers are placing greater emphasis on executives with expertise in technology transformation and international program delivery.

According to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), global military expenditure has continued to reach record levels as governments respond to evolving security challenges and accelerate modernization efforts. At the same time, McKinsey & Company has noted that defence organizations are investing heavily in digital engineering, advanced manufacturing, artificial intelligence, and resilient supply chains to improve capability development and production efficiency.

CSG’s board appointment comes amid a broader expansion of its executive leadership. Over the past year, the company has recruited several senior leaders from established defence organizations, including executives with backgrounds at General Dynamics, Rheinmetall, Northrop Grumman, Raytheon, KNDS, and BAE Systems, alongside leadership talent from financial services.

The strategy highlights increasing competition among defence companies to attract executives with experience managing multinational programs, navigating complex procurement environments, and leading large-scale technology organizations. As defence businesses expand internationally, leadership expertise has become an important competitive asset alongside manufacturing capability and research investment.

For CSG, strengthening executive leadership complements its broader international growth strategy following multiple acquisitions and increased participation in NATO and allied defence supply chains. The company has positioned land systems, defence technologies, and innovation as central pillars of its long-term business strategy while continuing to broaden its presence across Europe and North America.

Hudson described CSG as combining industrial capability with technological expertise and rapid execution, noting that his role on the Board will focus on supporting the company’s next phase of international expansion while strengthening its technology leadership.

As defence modernization programs continue worldwide, appointments such as Hudson’s illustrate how executive leadership is becoming increasingly intertwined with technology strategy, international collaboration, and innovation. For defence manufacturers competing in a rapidly evolving global market, attracting experienced leaders with operational, engineering, and multinational program expertise is emerging as a strategic differentiator alongside investments in next-generation defence capabilities.

Market Landscape

Global defence spending continues to rise as governments modernize military capabilities across land, air, maritime, cyber, and space domains. Defence manufacturers are investing heavily in advanced technologies, including AI-enabled systems, autonomous platforms, digital engineering, and smart manufacturing, while expanding internationally through acquisitions and strategic partnerships. Executive leadership with multinational operational and technology expertise has become increasingly important as companies compete for large defence programs and long-term government contracts.
